Days 24 to 29 -- Did you miss us?

We are so sorry for the delay in posting, but we were out on safari!  And, who would have thought that there wasn't great wi-fi in the African bush? Good excuse, right?  As some of you may know, we were supposed to be in Kenya this week.  Due to the recent terrorist attack(s) that haven happened there, we changed plans at the last minute to stay in South Africa.

Our alternate safari trip was made possible thanks to our rock star travel agent, Beth Jenkins.  And, the amazing team at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge who made it an awe-inspiring, fun and food-filled four days  We felt like we were being fattened up for the lions (p.s. the food was five star - thank you, Chef!).

This is what we saw when we drove up.  We thought, "Where's the hotel?"

When we walked down that path (previous shot), we walked through the front door and this is what we saw.  Let the awe begin!  Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is designed to literally blend into the landscape.

This is what the animals can see.  Each room faces the bush and there are no fences around the lodge so it wasn't a surprise to see a snake in the lobby and an elephant blocking the walkway on our way back to the room after dinner one night (which is why, after dark, you are escorted by a staff member)

This is Joe - our amazing ranger.  Look closely - Melissa is wearing her regal headgear in case she meets the king of jungle.

And this is Richard.  Our eagle-eyed tracker.  He and Joe were with us on all of our game drives.

Not only were they great guides, they were also very gracious hosts.  Yes, we stopped for cocktails each evening to watch the sunset from the middle of the bush.  Safaris are thirsty work.
