We Are Not “A-Fjord” Of A Little Rain
…but, A LOT of rain (and snow) does make fjords very hard to see. New Zealand is considered by many to be the world’s most beautiful country, so with great excitement, we sprang out of bed at 5:30 AM to be ready for our 6:50 AM departure to tour the mountains and fjords. However, the weather did not share our enthusiasm.
If a picture says a thousand words, that goes double for these.
It was a several hour bus ride, but we got to see lots of cute little farm animals (the white blurs are sheep).
Kiwis are a hardy lot. This rain didn’t phase them at all…including our bus driver who continued to stop for every scenic overlook along the way. p.s. Annie’s attempt to hold her poncho in place resulted in an unintentional, but heartfelt, gesture.
No, this is not the handy work of local pranksters. On a clear day, you can see the reflection of “Mirror Lakes” in the water.
As we continued our bus trip to the famous Milford Sound, we got a hint of more magnificent vistas.
Once we got to Milford Sound, we got on a two-hour boat tour of this amazing part of the world. On the up side, the rain created literally hundreds of temporary waterfalls that would otherwise not be visible. We’ll let you figure out the downside.
This is what it is supposed to look like.
Our spirits un-dampened by the crummy weather, we made the most of our time together on the bus ride home. And, when we got back to Queenstown, there was a promise of a brighter tomorrow.
