Halong Bay – November 12 & 13

We rolled the dice by choosing to stay in Hanoi to wait for the storm to pass.  And, it really paid off.  We didn’t know how hard Halong Bay would be hit and fortunately, it faired very well.  So, by waiting in Hanoi for a couple of days, we were able to go to this beautiful place and benefit from some amazing, post-Typhoon weather.

According to legend, the bay was formed when a gigantic dragon – “ha long” means descending dragon – plunged into the Gulf of Tonkin and created the outcrops by lashing its tale.

Bottom line, WOW.  It was incredible to see and an absolute trip highlight.
