Team Bastille Storms Paris on Day One

We landed this morning and in spite of having just a couple of hours of sleep, we kept going!  The key to surviving jet lag is to sleep on the plane (which we barely did) and stay awake once you land (which we barely did).  But, I'm happy to report that it's 4:15 PM on the East Coast of the US and we are still having fun here in Paris at 10:15 PM!  Here's a quick report on Day One.

First stop...The Eiffel Tower!  The lines were so long that we opted out of going up to the top, but here are some interesting facts.  It was built 1889 as the entrance arc for The World's Fair.  It weighs approximately 10 thousand TONS!  And, it's 1,050 feet tall.  Even thinking about climbing up there made us hungry, so...

Followed by a macaron tasting...this was Annie's first macaron and after tasting samples from a variety of boulangeries, the winner was the mango jasmine from Gregory Renard.  C'est magnifique!

She took this beautiful picture - what a gorgeous time of year to be here.

After a few hours of strolling the streets, browsing the shops,  and doing our best to take it all in without laying down on a park bench to nap, we met up with Carol, Cindy and Greg - our friends from Baltimore.  Annie G. has known Cindy since 2nd grade - what a treat to see them all here.

Carol, Cindy and Greg!

Ooh la la!  A little snack at a cafe before dinner (yep, Dad - it's all about the food!).  We actually said goodnight to the Baltimore gang as they went off to enjoy their last night here in town.  Team Bastille went to the grocery store and got some snacks to hunker down with at home to watch the World Cup.  Now, we're just hoping that France wins against Switzerland (the score is currently 3 - 0, so it's looking good).  Vive la France!  Off to bed here in Paris.  More tomorrow.
