Art Attack
Do you ever wonder about your significance in the world? Deep thoughts for DearBurglar, I know. But, the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (National Museum of Anthropology) answers that question. We are specks! All great and lovely specks, but taking a walk through literally thousands of years of history put it all in perSPECKtive. And, it also reminded me (once again) that we humans don’t learn much from our mistakes. My point…the history of Mexico (and, for most of the world for that matter) basically goes like this:
1) Indigenous people living a mostly peaceful life; just going about their business of existing
2) Internal strife/wars/disease – civilizations rise/fall
3) Outsiders arrive
4) External strife/wars/disease – borders are drawn/change; people control other people using a variety of means (brute force, money, religion)
5) Some combination of internal and external strife/wars/disease continue
Now you are all caught up! Hello, 2019!
But, seeing all of this history was also fun…check out these pics:
We ran from there into the modern age (and TWO Modern Art Museums). Our fav pics from the day are below.
This is Frida Kahlo’s most famous painting called “The Two Fridas”.
This is the exterior of the Soumaya Museum - stunning.
And, then more tacos! Hell, yea! The day kept getting better and better. Thanks to Rachel L. for the tip about the Condesa farmer’s market on Tuesdays.
Tonight we are off to a John Molanphy-recommended-restaurant called El Lago. Definitely going on a diet after this trip.
