Hindsight is 2020
Like most of our lives, Dear Burglar was on hiatus this year. But, as this unprecedented, dumpster-fire-of-a-year comes to a close, we wanted to document what went well or at least better than expected. Dumpster fires are contained and can be put out. So, that’s our hope. That 2020 is contained and when it’s over, we’ll have learned a lot about what not to do and maybe more importantly, what we can do differently to make the world a better, safer place going forward. (How about a well-orchestrated government response to the next pandemic? Thanks.)
If you read Dear Burglar, you are most likely a friend or family member. Annie deleted her FaceBook profile earlier this year (just too toxic), so for those of you who are kind enough to be here reading this post, here’s a quick look back at our life in 2020.
We moved – twice! We panic-bought a small condo in Rehoboth Beach, DE in April and then downsized and moved to John & Pat’s building in NYC just a few weeks ago. Both great decisions, but wow…we didn’t see either of these moves coming at the start of 2020. #makinglemonade
We worked – and, we are so grateful for the work. It also helped the days go faster even if they did (and do) all feel somewhat the same. A: “Hey Michael, what day is it?” M: “Blursday.”
We improvised – Mike’s Body Shop is our new gym. And, yes, Michael is the trainer. He’s also a damn good hair colorist.
Tricep dips with a backpack stuffed with four reams of paper.
We celebrated – thank God, Allah, Buddha, the Easter Bunny, Santa, and the Universe for Zoom. Ben’s graduation, Kay’s birthday, Jennifer’s book launch, and we rolled the dice with an outdoor boat cruise for our 20th Anniversary.

Fun with free flamingos. These were strays we found on the street.
We cooked and ate…a lot – Beach picnics were all the rage and we cooked up a storm.
We were tested and we voted – see what we did there? Enough said.
Which brings us to the end of 2020 and the start of 2021. As the sun sets…let’s just imagine what can be and go make it happen. Once we’re all vaccinated.
